It’s fascinating to observe the changes that characters undergo as they grow up and mature, because in real life change often does take place gradually, rather than within a short period of time. In that sense stories that deal with the passage of time have an advantage over those that present only a brief sequence. It does seem like one of the things that touch me the most is the role that “time” place in stories.
